Most of us know that our closet doesn't have to be as packed as it is, but not everyone can bring themselves to part with the clothes they just don't wear anymore. Maybe these clothes were gifts from special people in your life. Maybe they were purchased for a job that you no longer have. Maybe you're sure you will wear them one day, even if that day hasn't come around in more than two years. If you're struggling for any reason, here are some ways to make the transition easier.

Think of Its New Home

Maybe you don't love the way that sweater fits you, but that doesn't mean its next owner will feel the same way. Whether you sell or donate it, think about how much joy your clothing can bring to someone else who deserves it. When you're holding the clothes in your hand, picture it on someone who will instantly feel more confident the moment they try it on.

Consider the Perks

Can you imagine what it would be like to open your closet and actually be able to find something? Wouldn't it be amazing to be greeted solely by your favorite garments? Picture the result before you get started on the work. If you're having trouble getting motivated, start by parting with the clothes that are easy to sort. Anything that's fraying or dotted with holes can go without much hesitation.

Separate Your Memories

If you absolutely can't bear to get rid of something, make a pledge to separate your mementos. This can be anything from the shoes you wore at graduation to the dress you wore at your engagement party. There's no need to start with a clean slate when you can sort out these items and put them in a separate location (e.g., a hope chest, a dry space in the attic, etc.).

When you live in the apartments in Phoenix, it helps to have an uncluttered space. The lack of chaos in your home can translate to less anxiety and stress. If you're looking for more room to grow in your next place, tour the Element at Deer Valley. Call us today to see just how spacious our apartments can be.

Fabric plays an important role in the appearance of your clothes and furniture in Phoenix apartments. When you have an unsightly stain on a fabric couch, a curtain or even a clothing item, it may distract from conversations or engagement with guests. By taking measures to remove a stain, you can get back to your routine.

Detergent Stain Removal

Stains do not always require a specialized cleaning agent to remove the mess. Many common stains like tea or coffee stains may only need the right detergent. Keep in mind that cleaning the stain early plays a role in the ideal solution. Start with rinsing the stain under cold water. If it is a fresh spill, then blot the area before you rinse it under cold water. Apply detergent to the stained area and rub the area gently. Allow the detergent to sit for half an hour and then wash the clothing according to the instructions.

Using Dish Soap

Grease or oil stains are annoying because traditional stain removers and detergents may not get rid of your stain. A simple solution is using dish soap on your fabric. Start with blotting away the excess grease on a paper towel. Apply the dish soap to the stain and rub gently. Rinse it with cold water and check the stain. Repeat the process as necessary.

Vinegar and Salt

Fill a sink, bowl or bucket with equal parts of water and vinegar. Add a teaspoon of salt and then soak fabrics stained with mildew in the mixture. Allow it to sit overnight and then remove it from the mixture and rinse it. If you see that a stubborn stain persists, then put vinegar and salt directly on the stain and allow it to sit without diluting it in water. Wash the fabric after looking at the cleaning instructions.

Vinegar and Water

Coffee, tea and similar stains come out with a solution that is 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water. Dip a cloth in the mixture and blot the stain. For larger stains, soak the fabric in the mixture. Allow the fabric to sit in the sun to dry and then wash it in the machine or according to the instructions.

Hair Spray Stain Removal

Ink stains are difficult to remove through traditional measures; however, you can remove the stain with hairspray. Put a paper towel on one side of the fabric and then saturate the stain with hairspray. Use a second cloth to blot the ink. Repeat the process until you no longer see the ink stain and then wash the fabric with an enzyme detergent.

Removing stains from your fabrics will allow you to enjoy the curtains, furniture or clothing item for a longer period. The key is using the right strategy for the type of fabric and the stain. For more details about removing stains or to see available apartments in Phoenix, contact us today.

Having a pet in your Phoenix apartments is a wonderful luxury. But you also want to keep your apartment home looking as beautiful as the day you moved in. When a pet accident happens on the carpet, the resulting stain can be unsightly. Here’s how to effectively remove pet stains from carpet.

Step-by-Step Guide to Treating Pet Stains

1. Treat the stain as soon as possible. The sooner you treat the carpet stain, the better. Stains that are allowed to sit for days on end have a tendency to set. That makes it harder for you to remove them, even if you use the proper technique. If at all possible, you want to treat the stain while it’s still wet.

2. Put on a pair of inexpensive vinyl or latex gloves whenever you clean up pet stains. If your pet was sick at the time, it’s possible to contaminate yourself with bacteria in the event you have a tiny scrape or cut on your hands.

3. Use paper towels to clean up the bulk of the mess if there’s a lot of it. If the mess is still damp, you can also blot up the moisture with the paper towels.

4. Next, switch to a clean cloth and press down really hard with both hands to blot as much of the stain up as possible. Don’t rub, because that just causes the stain to spread.

5. In a clean bucket, mix 1/4 gallon of warm water with a cup of white vinegar. Stir gently with your gloved hand.

6. Pour a small amount of the vinegar-and-water solution over the stained area. Let it sit for about five minutes.

7. Now use another clean cloth to blot up the stain. Again, avoid rubbing if you can.

8. After the vinegar is absorbed, sprinkle baking soda over the entire area. The baking soda will finish absorbing the white vinegar, as well as any odor. Allow to dry for 15 minutes.

9. Finally, vacuum up the baking soda. The stain should now be gone. If it isn’t, repeat all the steps.

Bathrooms can become dirty fast — especially if you’ve got several people in your apartment. In this room of your apartment especially, it can be difficult to keep up with the mess over time, which means you’re often left doing a four-hour-long marathon clean twice a year!

These tips will help you keep your bathroom consistently cleaner and tidier — it’s a breeze!

1. Create a laundry system

As most disrobing for bathing will happen in the bathroom, it’s useful for you to have your laundry hamper there. Depending on whether or not you have other people in your household, figuring out a system will be beneficial.

For one, you can purchase a two-section laundry basket and each person takes a section. Alternatively or in addition, you can section your laundry by color (darks and lights).

2. Keep microfiber towels on hand

Microfiber towels are excellent at picking up dust and dirt that can accumulate on various bathroom surfaces. They’re also great because they’re washable. Use them daily (a quick swipe of the countertops or sink fixtures just takes a second), then toss them in the laundry after each use, and you won’t be wasting paper towel.

3. Have a place for everything

Hairbrushes, toothbrushes, face wash, and other bathroom tools and accessories all need to have a place. Whether that’s in drawers, a cupboard, or another storage location, it doesn’t matter; what’s important is that you make sure everything you’ll be using regularly is on hand but able to be put away quickly and easily as well.

4. Keep cleaning materials beneath the sink

Beneath the sink, put your favorite cleaning supplies. Most of all, you’ll want to add window cleaner, countertop cleaning spray, toilet bowl cleaner, and a toilet cleaning brush. These are the main products you’ll need for a quick “deep clean” of your bathroom when you need it. You can also keep some surface wipes beneath the sink for extra messes that don’t require actual cleaning spray.

The bathrooms in our Phoenix, AZ apartments are well appointed and easy to clean and organize to your liking. The living area, bedrooms, and kitchens are the same! See which floor plans are still available by giving our office a call today.
